Birth of Shutter Creek
I've been taking pictures since I was a teenager, but I never expected to be doing this professionally. I had worked in outside sales for years when I unexpectedly found myself trying to help a musician friend get some good images for an upcoming CD project. I used to model but this was the first time I had ever been behind the lens during a photo shoot. I was hooked instantly! Word of mouth kicked in and Shutter Creek Photography was born! People ask me how I came up with the name Shutter Creek. I love bodies of water so I picked something to reflect water (no pun intended!) as well as photography.

Education and Training
I earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Marketing, with a minor in Business Administration at Middle Tennessee State University. Working professionally in photography was not something I planned for so I am self-taught, outside of some post-production training in Photoshop, Corel Painter and printmaking at Nashville State Community College. I think that's a good thing, mostly, because I'm driven by artistic veins and not trapped in technicalities. I would probably break the rules anyway because I like images that are different and I like to experiment.

Growing up in the Nashville area and coming from a musical family, I’ve been surrounded by musicians most of my life. I love working with musicians and models because they will try anything we can think of to get a unique image! I like to know what a client wants the image to say and that helps me know what we need to do, and where we need to shoot. I enjoy working with all professionals who are looking for headshots, publicity or other media images that reflect what they do and who they are---people who want to break out of the mold of "sit here in front of this backdrop and say cheese." I call it UNcorporated. So many clients hate having their picture taken and are pleasantly surprised at their great images and the fact that they actually had lots of fun on the shoot! I work with children and pets as well and yes, those are crazy at times, but we always get great stuff!

Extraordinary Perspective
I like to photograph just about anything...I see beauty and interest all around me all the time. I try to keep a camera with me always, for those one-of-a-kind moments that can be found every time you look for them. We live in such an interesting, “wonder-full” world…makes it hard to drive sometimes!! I love angles and odd perspectives. I like photographing animals, architecture and home decor, old things, textures, grunge and of course anything nature-related. I like creating mystery by photographing something in a very abstract way so you're really not sure what you're looking at.

Last Wishes
Stranded on an island, I would have to have my husband and son, our pets and other wildlife, my camera equipment and computer, lots of sunscreen, music (all sorts) and movies, blank journals, and fiction books full of trials and triumphs. One of these days, I do expect to call the islands "home." We travel to the Caribbean frequently and we get cranky without a beach fix. Ooh, that first breath of tropical air when you step off the plane....okay, enough about me! Tell me about you!!!
